Pre Wed Hair ~ What Should You Go For?

I was asked a while back, what type of hair to have for a pre wed shoot. Personally I think you should be going for a casual/glam look. Pre weds are about fun, its both of you. Think of them as portraits, you can use for save the dates if you wish.

But whether your hair is short or long, or you want straight or curly, its a must that its trimmed {no split ends here} & well conditioned, then no matter what style you go for you hair will be lush.

If possible, I would suggest going to the salon to get your hair done, something about the way they blow it out, plus its a little pampering, will make you feel great too, and that really shows in your pictures.

What do you think? are you going casual glam, or should you look more bride like??

Budget Christmas Weddings for an Asian bride

Let's face it, with all the lavish rituals, ancient ceremonies, lively receptions and details meant to impress, an Asian wedding is expensive enough. Centering the wedding on the Christmas theme can be even more involved and costly.

A Christmas-themed wedding is all about adding a sense of warmth and comfort to the atmosphere.

This can be done easily and inexpensively with candlelight. Buying holiday scented candles will add more depth to the ceremony and reception, since only a few of them can go a long way.

Twinkle lights are other great options. Purchased on Black Friday or during after-Christmas sales, you can get lots of white string lights for a fraction of what they normally cost. This is great if you are planning your wedding a year or two in advance and can stock up with those after-Christmas sales.

Purchasing decorations after Christmas is also a must. You can find inexpensive wreaths, red and gold bows, centrepieces . . . you name it. Holiday-themed programs will also be on sale if you plan on printing up your own.
A can of silver or white spray paint can add shimmer to garlands and greenery. Create your own bouquets with silk flowers and try spraying a little bit of this shimmer on the leaves or floral accents like baby's breath.

Tulle is an amazingly cheap fabric and its sheer beauty is perfect for winter weddings. Dress it up by intertwining it with white strand twinkle lights and drape it throughout the sanctuary.

Many venues, including places of worship, decorate for the Christmas holidays.

Take advantage of this by booking a Christmas wedding. The venue will have already put up decorations at their expense, leaving you to handle only minor decorative touches.

Cranberries are a beautiful decorative source. Sprinkle them over table linens, string them across draped tulle, scatter them over centrepieces . . . the possibilities are endless.

In order to cut down on costs, limit the guest list. Keeping the guest list concise will make the wedding and reception more affordable, so only invite those you are closest to and forego the urge to show off to everyone you know.

Traditional Asian weddings will involve a number of events prior to the actual ceremony, regardless of where you have booked the wedding service and reception. Cut down on events like Sangeet and Sanji to give you more money to put toward the reception.

Certain events are obligatory, like Mehndi Rasam and Mandap Mahurat, but celebrate them as modestly as possible. Instead of enlisting the help of wedding planners to service these events, conduct them in the privacy of your home with close friends and family.

The key is to keep things simple and elegant, and of course keep your bank balance healthy.

Makeup - Readers Dilemma - Traditional v Contemporary

Help

I am getting married next summer and I have chosen my dream outfit in red with antique gold embellishments. My mother-in-law is very involved with the entire wedding and especially what I am wearing. We are at a disagreement at the moment about my makeup.

I would like a contemporary smoky eye look with understated lips but my mother-in-law is insisting that I go for a more traditional look with kohl on my eyes and red lips as she said this is how a bride should look.

I had my heart set on dramatic eyes but I am confused now. I don’t want to look back on my wedding pictures and not feel like a bride, Should I go for the traditional look?

Dear Confused Future Dulhan,

First and foremost you need to look back at your makeup looks recently and ask yourself, what looks made me feel my best? And would certain colours and shades compliment my outfit and my skin tone? If you are still unsure then go for a makeup trial and have your jewellery and headpiece with you. You may surprise yourself at how much you love the traditional look.. Or you may dislike it so much that seeing a vision of what you might end up looking like will give you the confirmation that red is not for you at all.

Ultimately, it’s your wedding day and what you want to look like overrides anybody else’s personal opinion. Lets face it, we can’t please everybody and this is one aspect of your day in which you should 100% please yourself.

Both looks are beautiful, but which is for you?

If you are already married, when did you get married and what type of makeup look did you go for?

If you aren’t married yet then what looks are you hoping to have on your big day?

Designer Notes - Saran Kohli

Jay Sean became a brand ambassador when Saran Kohli  designed and styled a collection for the  25 Year Anniversary for
 “Mani Kohli’s Khubsoorat Collection”.

I remember seeing Jay Sean in the above shoot, wearing one of Sarans designs,  its made him look all kinds of HOT! Certainly made me sit up and take notice, fusing urban style with the essence British tailoring,  its no wonder this Graduate from London College of Fashion has all the stars wanting to be dressed by him, be it for the red carpet or a music videos. The lists reads like a who's who of celebrities JLS, Jay Sean, Fugitive, Mumzy Stranger, Junai Kaden, DJ Ironik, H Dhami, Juggy D, Ameet Chana (Bend it Like Beckham), Bikram Singh, Karan Singh Pangali to name but a few.

Known for his signature slim cuts, with the use of luxurious fabrics silk, wool, velvet and jacquard, the style is distinctive and edgy

There is also the fact that creativity and design run in his blood, his mother designer Mani Kohli, of Khubsoorat Collection is the pioneer of South Asian Fashion in the UK. His elder sister is doing the brand proud Stateside with Khubsoorat by Geetanjali Singh with stores in New York & New Jersey.

It was only a matter of time that the the Industry would applaud Saran his hard work and talent. He walked away with Best Newcomer in Fashion Design for Saran Menswear at the 2nd Annual International Asian Fashion Awards.

Designer, Stylist, Artist, Award Winner ~ Saran Kohli

Saran Kohli - Source
I started designing because…. It's a ever evolving expression that portraits my feelings, concepts and moods onto physical form.

I was attracted to designing wedding attire because…It's that one day that means the most and most requires the best to describe what you feel for your other half

Where do you get your inspiration from? Inspired by my born love of dancing, music and global travel that infuses different cultures

Who is the Saran Kohli customer? 18-45+ who believes is craftsmanship, individualist, wanting the extra touch and blend eccentricity in their wardrobe. A global traveller also believer in heritage.

My style is…classical sartorial with London street edge with a hint Indian royalty

The perfect outfit should …Stand for quality, a projection of strengths in your personality

Brides/Grooms visiting my studio will find… layers, depth and a wide range of attire catering for every occasion in a Man's Wardrobe...from casual to alternative evening wear

My biggest achievement to date is…Making my mom proud of my identity

In my dreams, I’d…be the biggest Bollywood star, dancing under almost every tree with every heroine!

I am...Kohli Saab

You probably won’t know this but…my first love is dancing, I start at the age of 4 watching Michael Jackson and Prabu Deva...wearing MJ costumes and dancing in the living room...later ages, dancing took me places travelling the world and created my own street dance crew by the name of "Snach"

My next challenge will be…To discover the roots of Indian textiles and churn into modern contemporary pieces.

I predict brides/grooms will be will be wearing {next} … brides will head more towards the traditional looks with today's modern design sensibilities and Grooms will have a lot more Structured Nehrus with accessories I.e, shawls, turbans, waistcoats which will play a very important role to existing ensembles.

Junai Kaden was styled by &  had a black jacket designed, that he wore near the end of the video for Jabbi Teri Yaad . Here

I wanted to end this with, a big thanks to Saran for coming on the blog. and how genuinely lovely and humble Saran is, OK I haven't met him, but believe me when i say this you can really tell about about someone, by they way the talk, email or even tweet you.

Typically designer's can be known for a certain attitude, yet he who is the brink of global domination's {hes working on the brand in Delhi right now} is so warm and friendly.

"I love being personal with my customers and that's the only way both create a special relationship regardless if they get a shirt or a sherwani"

So you see, being talented makes you pretty great, but having the right attitude to go along with it, well that's what makes you awesome!!

Real Wedding - Madiha & Farhan by Sofi Seck Photography

LOVE does not even begin to describe the electricity that Madiha & Farhan share. I had only met Madiha once and had not met Farhan at all before shooting their beautiful wedding, so I was not really sure how they would interact with one another. But boy, was I in love with them by the time I was done shooting their wedding.

Madiha and Farhan are in love, ya’ll. I mean that deep kind of love that just pours out of their skin and into the air. The kind of love that screams every time they looked at each other or touched each other. My favorite kind of love.

I was originally hired by Madiha’s younger sister Bisma (who I just adore). Bisma, with the help of her family, planned the wedding and did a FABULOUS job. The details of the wedding were just gorgeous and the St. Louis Airport Marriot hotel served as a great location for the festivities. And if that weren’t enough, their entire family was just an absolute joy to work with. So … we have a hot couple full of love, two amazing families, a great location and stunning wedding details, and all of that equals a VERY happy Sofi Seck.

Madiha & Farhan, CONGRATS. You guys are amazing and I so loved shooting you. Enjoy your life together and thanks so much for a great wedding.
Bisma & family, THANK YOU so much. Peace and oh-so-much love!
