For the next few days I'll be featuring some of my favorite bloggers. I asked them one simple question, "Where do you see you and your husband in fifty years?" Feel free to leave your answer in the comments...I'd love to feature your comments in a post later!
First up, Elizabeth from A Young Retiree. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Elizabeth!
My husband and I officially celebrated our first year of marriage on October 31st, 2010. Long story short: {A year ago we put on our matching bumble bee costumes and said I do in a private ceremony in the living room where we were dog sitting Bear with just my grandmother in attendance... well, Bear was there too- he walked me into the living room.}
We then had our fancy church wedding on January 2nd, 2010. The ship was getting ready to deploy and already ruined our original wedding plans {to be wed on January 23rd, 2010- exactly 2 years from the day we first met}. We even had to have our chaplain "break into" the chapel, as it was closed for Holiday stand down!
We plan on celebrating BOTH anniversaries. A fiftieth wedding anniversary is such an accomplishment these days. The hubs knows my views- if you want to get rid of me, you're going to have to kill me! I don't believe in divorce. I think there are very few problems a couple can't work through either with each other or with the help of a counselor. It's harder to have that view as a second wife, but I still have it.
In 49 years, we'll hopefully be celebrating 50 years. The hubs will be 82 {grandpa!} and I will be 75 {grandma!}. I guess we need to start eating our veggies! My mother and father in law just celebrated 45 years or marriage, and seeing them together fills me with the hope that my hubs and I will be just as happy as the day we were wed... for the second time.
{The story of our first wedding was posted a few days ago over on my blog, so you can check it out when you're done here}. Our Halloween wedding was fun and amazing, but in some sick twist of fate, I came down with {what I think was} H1N1! Remember that! I spent the first three days as a Mrs. on a couch sweating it out in and out of cohesive understanding!
This picture is how I want to be in another 49 years:
During what was a very special, sacred moment, my husband shared a story with me and we cracked up. We had selected a song to be played while we lit the unity candle, and as a result, had to stand there with out backs to the congregation for the duration. We were once again dog sitting good ol' Bear. The hubs shared the story of shining his shoes. He did so before the rehearsal. {In another twist, it SNOWED in Norfolk, VA and hubs spent the night on the couch at my grandmother's. The morning of the wedding, I woke him up and told him he needed to get to Bear} He continued telling me the tale of how he got ready, put on one of his shoes... and could not find the other. He then looked towards Bear and saw the slobbery shoe in his mouth.
In 49 years: I hope we are still making each other laugh. I hope we still are just as in love. I hope that we still hold hands hile doing idle things like grocery shopping. I hope seeing him the morning of the wedding doesn't ruin a long life of happiness! {Good thing we were already married!}
